Philosophy

In Photography and Filmmaking, there is a gap between “what is” and “what should be.” The “should be” is subjective, but the “what is” is fixed and based in reality. I don’t venture too far from the “what is.”

I believe the Photographer is a participant, not a witness. Every human expression shows ‘peak aura,’ which in my experience, is literally a split second. That split second is the difference between a photo being emotionally deep or shallow. Intuition and timing are major, untaught skills. I also believe the first time something – anything – happens, is the only time it’s worth capturing. That’s why projection, visualization, and to an extent, psychic intent, are irreplaceable values. The best photographers are emotionally intelligent and intuitive, and know when to command and when to stay silent. This balance is incredibly important because people (your guests and families) have high expectations for their appearance, and don’t want to chase the image. They want the image to come to them. By having a certain empathy, a world-class photographer and filmmaker can do things, move things, and capture things that ‘beat expectations to the punch’ and exceed everyone’s particular vision of themselves in front of the camera.

Me

My name is Davit. I come from a long line of artists—stretching back to my great-great-great grandfather in the 1880s, who was, believe it or not, a photographer.

I have grown up completely surrounded by and immersed in painting, writing, music, dance, and the visual arts. I go as far to say martial arts—the only sport that’s an art. I shot my first wedding with a dinky Canon 10 years ago. Since then, I’ve fallen into the duty of capturing one of life’s most nostalgic days.

a seasoned Video Producer and Creative Director, having shot for some of the biggest names, including Chef Mark McEwan, the NHLPA, Whirlpool, IKEA, Sephora, and MAC Cosmetics, only to name a few.
